Yes! It's my real name! It's the first question I always get. Luckily my parents gave me the groovy name Fuschia Sky Woods, and I happened to marry an awesome fellow with the last name Moss. So of course Floral Design was sort of written in the stars for me!
During my childhood and young adult years, my first love was dance. From my home studio Bambi Phillips School of Dance, to the amazing Douglas Anderson School of the Arts High School in Jacksonville, Florida and continuing to New World School of the Arts College in Miami, Florida; these institutions allowed me to develop artistry in ways I am now so grateful for . Specifically studying classical ballet, modern, tap, jazz and an assortment of other styles. I realize now that much of my floral design ability comes from my dance training. Creating shapes, movement and use of colors. It's like telling a story by choreographing a full length ballet.....or wedding!
It all sort of fell into my lap. I was working in a completely different field at Westglow Resort & Spa. I was always so curious when the florist brought amazing blooms to decorate the property. I would constantly ask questions and learn about the flower varieties, designs and construction of her creations intrigued me. Leading me to create the flowers for my own wedding and taking over her task of the in-house florist for the property. Now, many years later and I'm still enjoying the amazing art of floral design.
Floral design trends change all the time, and I love the varieties of trends. However, classic and elegant styles always stand the test of time. Some of my favorite blooms are Hydrangea, Rose, Stock, Sweet Pea, Freesia, Ranunculus, Peony and Dahlia's.....I could keep going! There are so many varieties and colors within each of those flowers. Unique and unexpected flowers are also one of my specialties. For instance, a spiky thistle nestled up to a classical Rose or Hydrangea creates such awesome texture and interest. Greens too! Love, Love, Love using lots of greens like eucalyptus, kale, mountain mint and oh the list can go on! I also enjoy experimenting with new techniques or displays....I love to think outside the box!
Living in the High Country, surrounded by the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains, I am inspired on a daily basis. Driving to the grocery store and passing a meadow with horses surrounded by wildflowers is like living in a story book. Those of us working in the wedding industry in this area are so blessed with the natural beauty of the area. This led me to want to do more and give support to those in the business. For three years I held the role of Membership Chair for High South Event Professionals the High Country's only wedding and event association. This group provides excellent networking and support for vendors and for brides searching for wedding professionals. I have truly enjoyed getting to know others working in the business. In addition I am a member of the Boone Service League which provides financial support through donations, grants and volunteer work for families in need in the Boone area. For the last two years I have chaired the main fundraiser for the non-profit. I have been able to use my event planning knowledge to assist in raising money for our area families in need.
Thank you so much for your interest and taking time to get to know me. I hope you enjoy looking at the floral images and what you see may spark inspiration!
Best Wishes,
Fuschia
